- Use indexed measurements in patients at extremes of height
- Defining “rapid aortic root growth” or “ascending aortic aneurysm growth”
- Sporadic aneurysms: ≥0.5 cm in 1 year or ≥0.3 cm per year in 2 consecutive years
- BAV or heritable thoracic aortic diseases: ≥0.3 cm in 1 year
- Screen 1st degree relatives with aortic imaging if:
- Guidelines recommend CT/MRI measurements of the aortic root and ascending aorta be measured from inner-edge to inner-edge using gated images.
- Measurements of aortic diameter should be completed perpendicular to the axis of blood flow
