- The mitral valve (MV) consists of four components:
- mitral leaflets (anterior and posterior)
- mitral annulus
- subvalvular structures (including both chordae tendinae and papillary muscles)
- LV myocardium
- ⚠️ If any of these 4 is functioning abnormally → MR
